The United Nations brings together the countries of the world to keep peace and to work together to help people, to eliminate poverty and disease, and to encourage respect for rights and freedoms.
A “convention” is an agreement. The Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD) means that the United Nations agrees that people with disabilities have the same rights and freedoms as other people. The United Nations agrees to protect and help disabled people to enjoy these rights and freedoms.
The CRPD has seven sections that affect Deaf people.
